Concord dentists would say that the health and beauty of one’s teeth go together. In a way, the degree of self-love and self-respect can somehow be measured by how beautiful the teeth are. Beautiful teeth are characterized by the desirable size, shape, and color of the teeth in proportion to the face. The alignment of the teeth factors in, too, though dental alignment is subject to natural growth and certain habits rather than hygiene.

For example, teeth can become whiter with proper brushing at least twice a day—after breakfast and before bed. Caffeine stains teeth, so people are advised to refrain from coffee, tea, or soda—or else brush the teeth after drinking. Brushing off food debris and plaque also improves the color of the teeth.
This also reduces infection that creates black spots on the teeth.
Proper oral hygiene also maintains the overall form and shape of the teeth. If the teeth are properly brushed and flossed, accumulation of plaque and subsequent infection are prevented. The shape of each tooth is maintained.

However, trauma and pressure can break down the teeth, risking infection regardless of proper hygiene and diet. Bruxism is one such condition that can wear down and break the teeth. Bruxism is the condition of uncontrollably clenching or grinding the teeth during sleep; this can also occur in waking hours in moments of stress and tension. While bruxism has psychological roots and is treatable with stress therapy, the damage to the teeth may be treated with veneers or crowns or extraction and dental implants if the teeth are beyond repair.

If significant damage has not occurred yet, the dentist can provide night guards to prevent wearing down the teeth.
Both night guards and athletic guards are basically the same thing; mouth guards are removable coats made of thermoplastic ethylene vinyl acetate. These are hard yet firm. These may be bought ready-made from the drug store or custom-made by the dentist. Dentists recommend custom-made mouth guards for athletic purposes for more effective protection from sports-related mouth trauma.

Clear braces available from Concord dental offices are also made of ethylene vinyl acetate. Clear braces are used to treat mild malocclusion or uneven teeth; progressive clear braces are removable unlike traditional brackets with metal wires. However, most dentists are in favor of traditional metal braces, especially for those with severe malocclusion that require extraction of wisdom teeth or premolars to reduce crowding in the jaws. This is used for short-term orthodontic treatment for adult patients.
